Aquila Woods - It is over 11 acres of beautifully wooded land, with 20' to 60' high hills, ridges, ravines, and a 200' wide valley that cradles over 700' of creek. Deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and various other wildlife visit the area.
Yet, it's only 3.0 miles from our driveway to its gate. Someday we'll build a home there, but for now, it's a playground for the not rich and not famous. Plans are progressing to provide friends and family a place to camp, make and walk trails, throw knives and hatchets, shoot bows and use other weapons, cut wood (but leave it there) for fires and pioneering projects, setup walkways, build bridges, hang rope swings, zip lines and shoot an occasional animal to eat.
There are 50' to 100' tall Walnut, Oak, Ash, Beech, Hickory, Black Cherry, and Maple trees to climb and repel from, with many Redbud trees to sit under. There are plenty of Honey Locust trees and Honeysuckle brush to cut down. Usage is by invitation only, but we invite a lot.
It is totally undeveloped. And, while several buildings and access-related structures are planned prior to building a home, the intent is to keep it natural, encourage wildlife, and manage the forest for its beauty, not its harvest. If you're there and it's over 55 degrees and between early evening and late morning, you'll be a part of the bug buffet unless you bring bug spray. Of course, you can always tell the temperature (over 55) by counting the cricket's chirps for 15 seconds and adding 40 for Fahrenheit.
